‘Call the Midwife’ season 6 spoilers: Meet the latest new addition

Ursula -It has been some time since we’ve been able to share much in the way of news on “Call the Midwife,” but there has been a perfectly good reason for that given that the BBC series has been in the process of filming. Sometimes, it is rather hard to bust out an extreme amount of updates while you are in the process of making something.

Yet, we do at least have the smallest bit of casting scoop that we are happy to share today. Per a report from the Radio Times (who also first shared the attached image), Dame Harriet Walter has been cast to play a new nun at Nonnatus House by the name of Sister Ursula. We don’t want to call her a replacement per se to the dearly departed Sister Evangelina, but she is filling a void left by her. Speaking per Radio Times, Walter makes it clear that she may be a “not very welcome addition” to the group. We certainly imagine that there could be some clashes when it comes to her way of doing things as opposed to what some of the other midwives are interested in.

Speaking per the site, writer Heidi Thomas offers up some further information about what to expect over the coming season, following the South Africa set Christmas Special that is airing later this year:

“It’s back to earth with a bump for our beloved midwives as they return from their magical Christmas mission trip to South Africa. It is now 1962, and in a rapidly changing world, the arrival of Sister Ursula – superbly played by Dame Harriet Walter – brings new challenges to Nonnatus House … Tears are shed, and bonds reinforced, as the team pull together as never before.”

Ultimately, it seems as though you will appreciate the new season provided that you’ve loved everything that has come before.
