There will be another new episode of “The Night Of” airing on HBO come Sunday night, so what better way to prepare for it than by taking a look behind the scenes at how the show’s producers and production designers created this harrowing world?
What is so fascinating about this one is that we learn so much about the creation of Rikers, and specifically how much work went into making it feel as real and authentic as humanly possible. We have to imagine that this was not easy when you consider having to visit the famed prisoner, but that is precisely what some associated with the show did. They got a sense of precisely how this world works, and precisely at the same time just how horrible it can be. There is no privacy, a social structure, and a few other details that no one would know until they set foot on the island.
In this video, you also hear from Michael Kenneth Williams and John Turturro about the sort of long-term impact Rikers has on the series as a whole, and also how it added that much more of a fire to the show’s cast to be able to put a focus on such a place. At this point on the show Nasir is being held there until trial, where it will be determined whether or not the state finds him a murderer. We think we have our answer, but do we really? That will be one of the duties of the remainder of the season.
