So far, HBO’s “Vice Principals” has been, at least for us, a tale of two different shows. The first episode was a funny, random journey into the world of two men in Neal Gamby and Lee Russell whose insane thirst for the Principal position led them to do crazy things when someone else was hired instead. In episode 2, things went even crazier when the two broke into Dr. Brown’s house and Russell set it on fire.
Ultimately, we thought that episode 2 was almost too dark for its own good, and Russell seemingly became a raging psychopath overnight after not coming off that way at all in the premiere. We did not care for episode 2 as much as the premiere, but based on the preview below for Sunday’s episode, there may be time to turn things around.
One of the things that excited us about the original premise of the show was getting to see characters like Gamby in bizarre-but-expected situations that someone like him would be put into. Having to conduct a high-school field trip certainly seems like the right venue for something like that to happen. He’s going to get a chance to “bond” with some people, but probably other fight with some others. Ultimately, we’re expecting some chaos, and apparently also at one one moment where the guy has two guns. That’s probably not going to end all that well…
Rest assured that we’ll be back to render our full take on episode 3 after it airs on HBO Sunday!
