Come Tuesday, August 23 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, the latest season of “Ink Master” will be here on Spike — and we’ve got a video preview all about some of the “Peck vs. Nunez” contestants below.
The first thing that is obviously very different about this season is that we’re starting off with a whopping thirty contestants, which is not something we figured they would ever do given that there are only so many tattoo artists good enough to be on this show in the first place. Why stick so many on the screen now? Many of them will probably be eliminated rather quickly; maybe some of them will get a chance on a future season.
Another obvious twist that is coming with the show this time around is that you’re going to get a chance to see people work as a part of “teams” in some way, given that Oliver Peck has a team and Chris Nunez does, as well. It’s a concept that feels almost like “Ink Master” meets “The Voice,” and it is rather hard to know exactly what to make of it as a result. The show was not in any way broken, so why try to fix it with a twist that complicates the format?
Ultimately, we’ll of course still given this a chance. Our hope is that the first few weeks will mix up the concept, but then (similar to “Big Brother”) eventually it will revert back to being similar to the same show that it has always been.
