‘The Last Ship’ season 3, episode 7 video: How does Rachel factor back into the story?

On tonight’s new episode of “The Last Ship,” we’re going to see the return of a story that is certainly essential to the show … and it’s also one that has not really been addressed in some time: The aftermath of what happened to Rachel Scott.

As to precisely what this said aftermath is, we just have to wait and see on that. This promo at least brings her suspected killer back into the fold, and what is revealed there could shake up the political structure in some big ways. The St. Louis storyline has already been on the precipice of some craziness over the coming weeks, so we’re just waiting for that to tip over.

When it comes to the story of Captain Chandler, meanwhile, what we know is that their capture from this past episode may have some further consequences. We’ve already learned via the Takehaya storyline that nothing is precisely as it seems, and President Peng cannot be fully trusted. The Nathan James went halfway around the world with the best intentions, but will they be destroyed before they get a chance to head home? It is a worthy fear at the moment, and something that has to be further explored.

Ultimately, Sunday’s episode should prove itself essential when it comes to setting up the story the remainder of the season; given that we just lost Cruz last week, it is certainly possible that more lives could be lost before we get to the end. This show clearly doesn’t have a problem with it!
