‘Daredevil’ renewed by Netflix for season 3

Great news for all fans of “Daredevil”: The journey for Matt Murdock is officially far from over.

While at the Marvel – Netflix panel today at San Diego Comic-Con, it was officially confirmed that the series starring Charlie Cox was picked up for a third season. This is no surprise at all given the show’s massive popularity, and all of the various extensions to the brand already. That includes “The Punisher,” which is going to have a chance to shine in its own show moving forward. (Jon Bernthal made a surprise appearance at the panel.)

For the most part, the focus was not on “Daredevil” today, largely because of the impending arrival of “Luke Cage” later this year. For now, that is the focus, with “Iron Fist” and then “The Defenders” coming up after that. The specific premiere date for “Daredevil” season 3 is therefore probably pretty far down the road. Also down the road for now is season 2 of “Jessica Jones,” which was ordered following a pretty stellar first run.

In the end, we’re glad that in the process of promoting and hyping up “The Defenders,” which will probably be rather awesome, Netflix is not forgetting in the process about the shows that have already been great and super-successful for them to date. There’s plenty of comic-book material to pick through for the solo shows, and while “Daredevil” has went to some interesting places already, there’s a heck of a lot more story to tell. We’ll have more scoop down the line.
