While the British version of “The X Factor” may not have an official premiere date just yet in the UK, we do know now when it will be returning to America on AXS TV: Sunday, August 28 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The show will air on Sundays and Mondays for the entire season, and given last year’s airing schedule and also the plan to air new episodes just over 24 hours after they air in the UK, it is looking rather likely that the show’s premiere date on ITV in Britain will be Saturday, August 27.
For those who haven’t heard too much about the new season to date, Simon Cowell is the sole judge returning to the show after this past season. With that being said, all of the judges should be familiar to longtime viewers in Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne, and Nicole Scherzinger. The one interesting thing about this configuration is that this marks the first time since the first season of “The X Factor” in America that Scherzinger and Cowell have been on a panel together; they’ve never done so on the UK series.
Returning to host the show this season is Dermot O’Leary after a year away, which to us is a welcome return given that he understands the multiple hats a host must wear. You have to be professional, but at the same time sympathetic to the contestants and also funny here and there. In general, we feel like humor is more important to the show’s mission statement than in years past; the success of Cowell’s other British competition series in “Britain’s Got Talent” is based in part on that, and this series the past two years has become based more on pressure and intensity. We understand the stakes are high; shouldn’t we have some fun in the process?
We will of course have coverage of “The X Factor” all season, just as we’ve done in years past. To check out what we’ve written so far, our suggestion is that you head over to this link!
