‘Power’ season 3 premiere ratings set new Starz record

The numbers are in for the “Power” season 3 premiere, and it is very good news for Starz. We didn’t really expect anything less given the show’s rapid rise in popularity the past two years, but you can now cement this is as the biggest hit on the network … at least in terms of live+same day viewers.

In total, the premiere episode Sunday scored in total 2.26 million viewers, which surpasses the premiere record set previously by the “Outlander” premiere earlier this year. Word-of-mouth has been essential to furthering along the success of this show, and we also assume that moving it to a new night in Sundays likely helped to get more people watching live as opposed to later on down the road. We’re certainly curious to see what “Outlander” or “Black Sails” will do next when Starz moves them to this night, which we believe is very much the plan based on all of the information out there.

In a statement, network programming head Chris Albrecht had the following to say about “Power” doing such powerful business right away:

“We are thrilled ‘Power’ continues to be a force in its third season with this record-setting performance —something very few shows ever achieve. We are proud to say the show is must-watch TV and has helped to establish STARZ as a Sunday destination for viewers.”

We can only imagine these numbers expanding out further when you consider some other factors, especially when you look at live+3 and live+7 figures. Hopefully there will be more information there soon enough.
