‘Prison Break’ revival: Sarah Wayne Callies teases very different Sara

Prison BreakThe revival of “Prison Break” may not be coming until all the way in the spring, but isn’t it at least somewhat nice to get some more news all about one of the major story arcs. Given what seemed to happen with Sara and her “death” at one point in the show’s run, it’s remarkable that she has made it back, let alone for the revival. Then again, you could say the same thing about Michael. Time will have passed in the years since we last saw her, and when the story picks back up, it’s fair to say that you will not just see an identical interpretation of the woman who was once a key part of this story.

In previewing this to Entertainment Weekly, Sarah Wayne Callies (who also said that one of her reasons for signing on was to show her growth as a performer) explained in part just how different her character is:

“When we left her, she was a young woman devastated by losing the love of her life, and she was pregnant, and when we meet her again, she’s seasoned … She’s moved through her grief to the point where she realized that her grief was an extravagance her son couldn’t afford, and so she decided to make him her life’s work, and honors the legacy of his dead father by giving him a good life; that includes giving him a stepfather [played by Mark Feuerstein]. She’s changed hugely, just as I have. I don’t think I could play a facsimile of Sara Tancredi from season 1, but playing Sara Scofield in season 5 is both different and honest.”

Part of the fun, of course, with this revival is going to be seeing precisely which characters have changed over the years … and also which ones have been somewhat stuck in the quicksands of time.
