‘Shameless’ season 7 spoilers: ‘NYPD Blue’ alum on board for major role

Is the landscape for “Shameless” changing moving into the seventh season? We certainly hope so, since variety really is the spice of life. Not only that, but this show really needs this when you consider precisely where we are right now in the show’s run.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharon Lawrence of “NYPD Blue” fame is going to play a key role in some of the episodes to come, playing the part of Margo. She is a real-estate tycoon who also happens to open the coffee shop in which Fiona (Emmy Rossum) works at. In turn, she could end up becoming a mentor figure for her.

We’re always thrilled to see “NYPD Blue” vets on TV, but beyond that, what we really like about this casting is that it does show a significant amount of evolution in terms of where the Fiona character could go. We continue to be major proponents of seeing what she is like on the series without a major love interest, and maybe this is the year we will see that and start to see her find some success in some other parts of life.

After all, we do still feel like the Gallagher family can remain a massive hot mess, even if they do start to get a few more things working out for them.

The best part about the seventh season this year may just be that you don’t have to wait nearly as long. You won’t have to wait until January this time to see the show return, and rest assured we’re going to have some further updates as we learn more about what to expect.
