Dwyane Wade guest-hosts on ‘Live! with Kelly’ one day after Chicago signing

On Wednesday night, the news first broke that Dwyane Wade was leaving the Miami Heat after more than a decade with the team in order to go join his hometown Chicago Bulls, and after that sort of announcement, it’s understandable if he would want to take a little bit of a break from being in the public eye.

Ultimately, it seems that Wade went in the completely opposite direction. In the video below, you can see the basketball star guest-hosting on the latest episode of “Live! with Kelly,” one where he and Kelly Ripa do of course talk about his departure from the Heat, what that city meant to him, and also him going back to play in his hometown. There’s also some fun in here as they talk about morning routines, a certain athletic tournament sans clothes, and also his bellybutton. She also gave him some Chicago Bulls-themed hotpants, just in case he wants to bring back the famous shorts from so many years ago. (John Stockton was the last guy to wear them, and that was ages ago.)

In the end, we do think this was the best thing that Wade could have done to diffuse a little bit of tension; he was honest, fully, and was also able to do this without any sort of grand-standing or patronizing. Sure, this wasn’t exactly a hard-hitting interview, but this is not a show devoted to an audience of sports fans who want to know about his relationship with Pat Riley.

Ripa is looking still for a permanent co-host, but we know it won’t be Wade. The guy’s already got a day job!
