‘Animal Kingdom’ renewed for season 2 by TNT; ‘Angie Tribeca,’ Wrecked’ by TBS

Today’s a rather big day in general for the TNT / TBS family: After all, several shows are officially coming back!

Let’s start with the Ellen Barkin drama “Animal Kingdom,” which will be back for a second season. While the average ratings here (0.4 in the 18-49 demographic) are not stellar, they are on par with “The Last Ship” and some other programs on the schedule. Also, there’s hope that the show will get some other attention over time.

In a statement, the network’s executive vice president of original programming Sarah Aubrey had the following to say:

Animal Kingdom has signaled the new tone for TNT dramas and is moving the network in the direction we hoped it would … I’m confident that our strategy of working with high-caliber talent and then getting out of their way will continue to pay off.”

It is important to note that the network is really continuing to push hard that they want to be considered in the same vein as FX and AMC, who work with top talent and produce extremely high-quality programming in the process.

As for some other news, sister station TBS has picked up “Angie Tribeca” and “Wrecked” for additional seasons. This means that their comedy stable is more secure than ever; we feel like this is a network still working to get the audience they probably deserve with some of these. Hopefully, getting some more episodes out there plus having a little bit more time will push viewers in the best possible direction.
