‘Star Trek’ 50th anniversary Comic-Con panel to feature William Shatner, Michael Dorn, others

With us in the thick of the 50th anniversary of “Star Trek,” it only makes sense that San Diego Comic-Con would do something special in honor of one of the greatest TV franchises in history. It’s with this that we are super-happy to report that they certainly agree.

In a statement today, it was announced that on July 23 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. local time in the cavernous Hall H, there will be a 50th anniversary panel for the show moderated by Bryan Fuller, a longtime Trekker and writer who is the showrunner for the upcoming CBS All Access version of the series coming up next year. Joining him will be William Shatner from the original series, Michael Dorn and Brent Spiner from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (our personal favorite), “Star Trek: Voyager” star Jeri Ryan, and Scott Bakula of “Enterprise.” It’d be great to have someone from “Deep Space Nine” in here as well, so maybe there will be some other names or surprises announced.

Sure, in some ways it may be hard to find something new for these people to discuss that hasn’t been mentioned in other panels, but at least this is a very unique combination of “Star Trek” superstars who have a deep affection for the show. Also, hopefully we will hear something about the new season, as well.

More than anything, what we really do love is how Trekkers may be some of the best fans out there in terms of panel attendees. They’re attentive, respectful, and adore the source material.
