‘Samurai Jack’ revival will have darker story
Remember that “Samurai Jack” is coming back to TV? It’s been a while since the first announcement came out, so we wouldn’t be shocked if you were starting to have a little bit of a memory lapse when it comes to the subject.
While we still cannot tell you every little detail about this project (which is heading to Adult Swim after years of being on Cartoon Network), we can at least confirm for you that this version of the show will have a slightly different story and motivation for the title character. While at Anime Expo writer Darrick Bachman, per IGN, described some of the changes with the following:
“I think we’re going to see [Jack] in a new light because we’e going to see him from a different standpoint … In the original series he was very heroic person on a very rigid quest. Now we pick up with him an it’s many years after the fact and he’s a little bit lost. So it’s a story of redemption and him trying to find who he is again.”
Meanwhile, creator Genndy Tartakovsky suggested that while there will be some darker edges to the new series, don’t expect it to necessarily venture into R-rated territory, either:
“…People watch [Samurai Jack] with their kids. You know, through the generations. I didn’t want to go full on heads getting chopped off and blood spurting everywhere, but at the same time I also wanted it to be newer and exciting and take advantage of some of those things.”
