‘Lost in Space’ remake ordered at Netflix
Will Robinson could be in danger once more; today, Netflix has confirmed that they are bringing an adaptation of “Lost in Space” to the air in 2018. This is one of the most beloved science fiction franchises of all time, and it also combined elements that you don’t often see much of on TV anymore. What we’re trying to say here ultimately is that there is a very good chance that this show could end up being a hit, provided that the right people are involved and the show is promoted in the best way possible.
In a statement confirming this news, Netflix’s own Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland had the following to say:
“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience … The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (“Dracula Untold”) have been brought in as writers, while Zack Estrin of “Prison Break” fame will be the showrunner. This follows a tradition of Netflix either reviving or remaking many other classic TV shows, whether it be “Gilmore Girls,” “Longmire,” or even a show like “Fuller House” that managed to actually do a little bit of both. They based their model on subscribers more than ratings, and a “Lost in Space” revival could effectively bring in all ages of viewers.
