‘Preacher’ renewed for season 2 by AMC
While we cannot say that we are particularly surprised by this little bit of news, we are definitely glad that it is official: “Preacher” is coming back for a second season on AMC. It was confirmed today in a statement, with network president Charlie Collier having the following message to pass along:
“Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season … What Sam [Catlin], Seth [Rogen], Evan [Goldberg] and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
The reason the word “expanded” is used specifically in here because the next season of the show is going to have in it an impressive 13 episodes as opposed to the ten from season 1. This will give the show much more time to explore the world of Jesse Custer, and also probably bring in some new characters as well.
So far this season “Preacher” is the #2 new cable drama of the year in the key 18-49 demographic, and given how the show started following “Fear the Walking Dead,” there was never any expectation for it to be anything less than a hit. Given that this is the same network that makes millions on zombie dramas, we anticipated that it would have no problem drawing big ratings.
