The eighth season of “The Vampire Diaries” may not be premiering until October, but here is the good news: You can at least learn a little bit more about an important recurring character coming up!
According to a report from TVLine, the show is trying to book a new character for the premiere and beyond named Sybil, someone who is incredibly powerful, a master manipulator, and is more than likely someone who has been alive for a rather long time. (That probably sounds familiar, given this show.) What makes this a little more interesting is the mere idea that she could be playing for either Team Heroes or Team Villains; while we would probably bet more on the latter than the former, we’re not writing either one of them necessarily off.
We’ve already made it clear on the site what our personal dream would be for the eighth season of the show, in particular if this does turn out to be the final season: Cast someone incredibly menacing and different than anyone else we’ve met in order to be the new Big Bad. Give them some interesting qualities that stand out from the rest, someone that every other villain would fear, and also some sort of specific motivation for going after these characters. The biggest issue with season 7, which we actually think started really strong, was that by the end we had no real idea who the big bad was supposed to be. We thought it was Rayna, but that didn’t end up going anywhere as fast as we’d hoped.
