‘The Musketeers’ season 3, episode 4 reaction: A sad story for Aramis and Pauline
If the goal of BBC’s “The Musketeers” is to make you feel as broad a spectrum of emotions as humanly possible, this just in: They probably succeeded on the latest new episode. This episode was tremendously action-packed in some moments, but also incredibly emotional at other points.
When it comes to the story of Pauline and Aramis, weren’t there some pretty heartwrenching moments in there? Emotionally, this one got to us, though we wish that there was a little bit more of it than what we ended up getting. Generally, we’re fine with getting more Pauline on the show in general.
Now that we’ve said that, these two characters had probably one of the only downer parts of the episode, since much of the rest of it really relied more so on fun, intrigue, and a diamond retrieval storyline. Specifically, the Bonnaire stuff was fun, especially his attempt at an escape, which in turn followed an attempt to try to get something useful out of the former adversary. This was just a hoot, and we appreciate the comedy in here. We always prefer “The Musketeers” a tad more lighthearted, so we’re fine with an episode that tries to emphasize that more so than just a series of super-serious moments.
There were a few things that were in here to set up stories in the future. For example, what is Grimaud seeing in Sylvie, and what plans does he have? Some of that may be paid off next week, but we anticipate that as a whole, the show will take its time.
