‘The Blacklist’ season 4 spoilers: On villains, Alexander Kirk, and perception
Is Alexander Kirk truly the Big Bad of “The Blacklist” moving forward into the fourth season? After watching the end of season 3, we feel like it is ultimately very difficult to have any other perception. Just look at what happened! While we learned that Liz Keen was still alive, in the final episode she was captured by Alexander Kirk, a man claiming to have a deep-seeded knowledge of her to the point where he actually proclaims himself to be her father.
We unfortunately cannot tell you at present whether or not this claim is true; however, we can proclaim that there are many questions concerning this man, including whether or not he is the next Big Bad. Luckily, executive producer John Eisendrath was at least kind enough to offer up the following statement to Entertainment Weekly:
“[The status as Kirk as a villain] is definitely a cliffhanger for next year … It’s definitely an, ‘Oh my God, who really is this person, what’s his agenda and what is going to happen to Liz?’ We’re left with Red and everyone aware of the fact that Liz is alive, and she’s also been abducted.”
Given the sort of tease that we were left off with concerning Liz, it is really hard to imagine the show starting up this season in a way that is anything other than epic. We’re fine with Kirk remaining a huge villain for some time, provided of course that he manages to be telling the truth concerning his tie to Liz. Otherwise, the whole reveal of this storyline is going to be somewhat deflating.
The new season of the show will premiere on NBC later this fall, so we will have some further updates about it then.

Just who is Liz Keen? What’s her story. We know she Masha Rostova who lived in the US with her mother and father. At a young age she shot and killed her father and got her memory suppressed and went to live under an assumed identity as Liz ? The house burned down and she was rescued by Red. We don’t know what her surname was before she married Tom Keen, which wasn’t his name. Her mother is also dead.
Her grandfather came to the US, but we don’t when or in what circumstances. Then I suppose she tried to solve the crime, read the local reports of the fire and built up an interest in piecing together information and solving crimes, which lead her to the FBI profiling role she had when Red re-entered her life.
Alexander Kirk claims to be her father. He could be an Uncle who wants Liz to have his business and has other nieces and nephews who could take over. For reasons of his own he wants Liz to succeed him. Alternatively, Liz and her mother weren’t in the US with her father, living as part of a sleeper cell. Given Liz’ knowledge of the fulcrum, Katerina Rostova worked as one of the agents who provided it with information and then stole it leading to her apparent death. Presumably, the organization that created that fulcrum just started another for their own, no doubt, nefarious purposes, but would like to get the first one back and kill all those responsible for its theft.
Red’s therefore putting an organization together that’s capable of smoking out the one behind the fulcrum. At the moment Liz is just bait as she’s always been. Kirk could turn her into a player. That would complicate Red’s life no end.
The fulcrum organization ran agents ostensibly working for governments. Penetrating the FBI is child’s play in comparison or other criminal organizations. I suspect season 4 will see an erosion of trust between all members of the ‘team’. Dark secrets will emerge and be used as leverage.
