Ratings: ‘The Night Shift’ rises, ‘MasterChef’ and ‘Wayward Pines’ steady on boring night
Wednesdays are not exactly a banner night when it comes to new television programming right now, mostly because of the fact that the shows that are on are either relatively low-rated, or don’t get a whole lot of conversation. That will change next week with the premiere of “Big Brother,” and beyond that you’re also going to get a chance to see shows like “Suits” and “Mr. Robot” drop soon on cable.
For the time being, though, let’s put the focus primarily on what we’ve got.
For Fox, things were as steady as a rock on the night. “MasterChef” ended up drawing a solid 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, otherwise known as the same rating it got last week, and more than likely the same rating it’ll be around next week. This is a show that a core audience who watches, and they don’t really worry a whole lot about things going up or down during the season. It’s almost a sure thing to be renewed, since Fox does still cherish their Gordon Ramsay empire. While “Wayward Pines” was also steady, it was at a 0.7 rating and that’s hardly worth writing home about on the same level.
Meanwhile, over on NBC the good news is that “The Night Shift” improved slightly from where it was last week with a 1.0 rating. We’re not entirely sure as of yet what it’s future is going to be for the medical drama right now, but we hope it gets a season 4 given that there’s really not too much scripted programming going on with network TV this summer.
