‘Big Brother 18’: Is Tiffany Rousso, Paulie Calafiore casting smart?

Big Brother -

Today, “Big Brother 18” unveiled its newbie cast! Isn’t that exciting? We’re going to go through some of these people individually over the course of the next few days and give you some more insight on all of them.

For now, though, we want to focus in for a second on what is to us a really important question: Did we really need to see two siblings of former contestants on the show moving forward? We have in Paulie Calafiore and Tiffany Rousso the two siblings of Cody (season 16) and Vanessa (season 17), and given that season 15 had Elissa on it, this marks the second time in four years the show has gone to this well.

Do we understand the idea of a built-in story? Absolutely, since you want to give viewers a reason to tune in; however, we’re not sure anyone can replicate what Vanessa brought to the table, and when it comes to Paulie, we actually thought what made Cody dynamic was his alliance with Derrick and how the two people worked together. We ultimately would just prefer to see completely new stories in the event that we have a season with newbies, and not the bizarre hybrid that CBS seems to have going on. As a matter of fact, we’d prefer this sibling twist if every contestant had a relationship with a former houseguest, or if there was some sort of blood vs. water component.

(For now, we’re operating under the assumption that there are four returning players, but we’ll get confirmation of that very soon…)
