2016 Tony Awards to be dedicated to Orlando nightclub shooting victims

Tony Awards -

Before we get too far into this article, let’s start by addressing the nature of the tragedy that occurred early Sunday at an Orlando nightclub. It’s devastating, terrifying, and our hearts go out to everyone affected. The only thing worse than the individual tragedy is that it continues to happen.

In the sake of such events, we do understand that there is a need for distractions for many out there to help better process and get perspective on events. That is why we are continuing to write about television today, and that is also why the show will go on tonight at the Tony Awards on CBS. In a statement, the organizers made it clear that the broadcast will dedicate itself tonight to the victims of the horrific attack:

“Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them.”

The show is set to begin at its regularly-scheduled time with James Corden of “The Late Late Show” serving as the night’s host. We will offer up some further coverage on the events that take place over the course of the night, so be sure to check back then. Many of the performers who are specifically taking the stage tonight have already professed they will be doing so in order of the victims, further establishing the strong relationship between the Tonys and the LGBTQ community.
