If there’s one thing that we certainly know rather well at present, it is that revivals are kind of a big deal … especially on streaming services. Therefore, one part of the “Ugly Betty” panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin this weekend was spending a minute or two hyping the idea of going to Hulu for a TV movie or some other short-form project. As a matter of fact, American Ferrera even suggested using the hashtage #HuluBringBackUglyBetty.
In speaking specifically about what a new version of the show could offer, creator Silvio Horta said the following per Entertainment Weekly:
“There are a lot more stories,” and after the cast speculated where they thought their characters might be in a reboot, he admitted he’s been keeping notes on Betty since the 2010 finale. “I will say that being here with everybody, listening to these ideas, it’s kind of refreshing. Here’s the only thing I know for sure: If we were to do something, it would be a dream, but everybody on this stage would have to be involved, and Becki Newton.”
For those wondering, Newton was the only prominent cast member not in attendance due to illness.
One thing we really should make clear here is that before this panel, it doesn’t seem like there were any real talks of this happening at all. Therefore, just consider this (at least for now) to be some fun speculation of something that people would love to see happen. It’s certainly possible it could, but it’s also possible this is the last time we ever write about this subject.
