‘MasterChef’ season 7, episode 3 video: Wolfgang Puck proves to be tough critic

MasterChef -

If you remember the earlier seasons of “MasterChef,” then you are certainly familiar with the notion that Gordon Ramsay was not always the harshest critic on the judging panel. That honor instead went to Joe Bastianich, who would throw people’s plates into the garbage if they turned out really badly. He was incredibly tough, but at the same time, we liked that because it meant something when you really did cook something amazing.

While we haven’t seen Joe in some time, Wednesday’s new episode is going to be giving you someone equally harsh, and even more well-known, in Wolfgang Puck. The famed chef and restaurant owner is one of the people in the culinary world who has an empire on the save level of Ramsay, and he is going to be really hard on the home cooks based on this preview below. He tells one contestant that it looks like their food has already been eaten, and at one point, Gordon sounds reasonably embarrassed in the field.

Will things improve? Probably, and Puck will be one of the first few to congratulate them on that. We’ve seen him judge some other culinary competitions in the past so we do have a good read of what he is like in this venue.

We just hope, in the end, that his presence does not disrupt the overall chemistry or balance of the show. While we’ve always loved Graham Elliot, at the same exact time we’ve found the format of having two judges to be rather nice, mostly in that it gives the contestants more of a focus.
