Teen Choice Awards 2016: ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Shadowhunters,’ ‘Stitchers,’ ‘Quantico,’ ‘Lucifer’ fight for Breakout Show

Choice TV: Breakout Show is really a perfect category for a show like the Teen Choice Awards, especially when you consider that there are so many great first-year shows that don’t really get a chance to get a lot of love otherwise on awards shows. We also think that whoever magically selects some of these nominees did a pretty good job with this list, given that you’ve got some fun stuff on here, and a few programs that could be deserving winners.

Now that we’ve got that introduction out of the way, let’s get to the analysis! You can see our take on all of the contenders below, and also a poll that we’re going to use to gauge our own readers’ interests.

The nominees

“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”

“Lucifer”

“Quantico”

“Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”

“Stitchers”

“Supergirl”

Who will win – This is yet another tough category to gauge, mostly because it’s hard to figure if teens or people pretending to be teens will be voting the most. Given the show’s history with YA adaptations like “Twilight” and “The Vampire Diaries” the smart money is to pick “Shadowhunters” for the likely victor here. However, you really can’t rule out something like “Supergirl,” which is beloved and has a super-passionate following.

Who should win – We’d be fine with a show like “Lucifer” winning here, even if it feels like it has utterly no chance since we don’t really know if it is popular with teens at all. Ideally, “Supergirl” will win because it improved so much from start to finish this past season.
