Teen Choice Awards 2016: Brett Dalton, Teddy Sears, Cameron Monaghan compete for top villain
You gotta love lucky timing! On the same day that we announced the reader results for the first wave of Teen Choice Awards nominations, the Fox awards show announced their second wave, which in turn gives us another two weeks’ worth of content to discuss. We’re going to go through these new categories over the course of the coming days, which should create some fun debates.
We’re starting off today with the first one listed on the new ballot in Choice TV: Villain, which you can vote for over here. At the bottom of this article (which includes our analysis), you are also going to have an opportunity to vote for your own personal favorite! We’ll share the results a little bit down the road.
The nominees
Brett Dalton, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Greg Germann, “Once Upon A Time”
Lea Michele, “Scream Queens”
Cameron Monaghan, “Gotham”
Janel Parrish, “Pretty Little Liars”
Teddy Sears, “The Flash”
Who will win – In looking at this list, we have to go with Michele given that she has won plenty of Teen Choice Awards in the past, and there are probably still many “Glee” fans out there couple with those who loved her on “Scream Queens” season 1. We would say that there are a few sleepers in here still, though, including Monaghan even if he was only in a few episodes of “Gotham” season 2 as Jerome. The character, a precursor to the Joker, found himself with an enormous fan following.
Who should win – When it comes to performance alone, how do you not go with Dalton? He played effectively two different characters in Grant Ward and Hive over the course of the past year, and he’s ultimately played three different iterations since the beginning of the show. This would be a nice send-off for him if he was to not return for season 4; beyond him, we’d probably put Sears in second place since he effectively was two people in his own right in Jay Garrick and Hunter Zolomon a.k.a. Zoom.
