Teen Choice Awards 2016: ‘Austin & Ally,’ Ross Lynch, Laura Marano dominate reader picks

What we’ve been trying to do with our Teen Choice Awards spotlight series over the course of the month of June is seeing if we can determine a correlation between the picks of some of our readers here at CarterMatt to what the show’s voters ultimately decides to do at the same time.

Below, we’ve got for you some of our reader picks for the comedy category, and for the most part, the people have spoken here: Out of the nominees, they really like “Austin & Ally” more so than any other show out there.

Choice TV Series: Comedy – In what was the closest of the three polls we put up for this category, “Austin & Ally” emerged as the favorite with 35.6%. “Fuller House,” meanwhile, was in second with 28.8%. This does make some sense, especially given that the majority of “Austin & Ally” viewers probably fall within the Teen Choice demographic more so than any other show.

Choice TV Actor: Comedy – Ross Lynch. This was really a two-person race between Lynch and Taylor Lautner from the BBC Three series “Cuckoo,” but Lynch won with a pretty commanding lead with almost 50% of the vote.

Choice TV Actress: Comedy – Ultimately, this one wasn’t close at all. Laura Marano scored almost 62% of the vote, and this was one of the most one-sided victories out of any of the polls we’ve done.

Will these results mirror what Teen Choice voters ultimately decide? We’ll have a chance to find out come July 31 when the show airs.
