‘The Americans’ season 5: Show exec on plans to wrap up story
“The Americans” season 4 may have come to a close, but the reality here is that there is so much more of the story left to tell! We’ve got two more seasons, and with that, we’re going to get a chance to see how Philip and Elizabeth’s journey ends … and also how much it could potentially be influenced by family. This is something that we’ve started to see unfold over the course of the past little while in some shape or form already.
So do the powers-that-be at the show already have some sort of particular plan for how things are going to tie together? It does seem that way, based mostly on what executive producer Joel Fields had to say in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the subject of planning:
“We know for sure the direction we’re headed and we have an ending in mind that we’ve had in mind for a while. There’s some different versions of it that could unspool for us. One interesting thing about our process is that we tend to know very clearly where we’re going but also tend to be very open to the story surprising us and changing along the way. So there are certain storylines over the course of the last four seasons that we broke early or in the middle in season one and for the next three and a half seasons played out exactly as scripted — and others that we expected to play out a certain way and then surprised as they unfolded.”
While we have seen Paige take an increasingly active role in the series (is anyone really that shocked by that?), Fields remains mum on the subject of if Henry will, as well … but we have to think that it’s a fairly distinct possibility.
