‘Nashville’ season 5 renewal close to happening at CMT

Given that CMT is Country Music Television, it really feels like there is no better logical fit for “Nashville” than the network. Sometimes, logic does not always align with reality, but in this case we’re pretty darn happy to see that it may very well take place exactly how so many of us want.

According to Deadline, there are serious talks happening at present between studio Lionsgate and the cable network on a season 5 pickup, which would come weeks after ABC canceled the show, citing low ratings as the reason. This would more than likely be a deal that includes both CMT and a streaming provider such as Hulu; having two different destinations chip in for the show ultimately is a better way to keep it monetized.

As for when a formal announcement could come, it’s possible CMT may choose to make some sort of announcement while at the CMT Awards coming up tomorrow night provided that everything is squared away at that point. We’re very confident at this point something will get done; if we’re at the point that a network is willing to spread the word about there being talks to pick up the show, they’re probably going to find a way to make it happen. Can you imagine now the backlash that would come if CMT opted to cancel the show? It’d be virtually the equivalent of someone handing you a Christmas present, getting you excited about it, and then yanking it away.
