‘MasterChef’ season 7, episode 2 video: The auditions continue

There’s another new episode of “MasterChef” airing on Fox Wednesday night, and judging from what we’re seeing in the promo below, it feels like structurally, there is not too much that is different between this one and the premiere last week.

Once again, we are going to see contestants fight for an apron in almost an “audition” format, where they will be in small groups typically centered around a theme. We’re not sure about the theme-of-sorts for the frat guy trying out, but we feel like he’s got a good shot of making it through, if he can cook, based on personality alone.

We do hope that after we make it through these auditions, there is another round where we do get a further chance to see some of the previously-eliminated home cooks come back for one more shot at redemption. We had something similar on the show last season, and it helped a few notable contestants make it into the next round. We just don’t think it’s fair for people to be completely cast aside because of the person or persons they were directly competing against. What if they were up against the champ?

Ultimately, we’ll get a chance to see what the producers do soon enough, but either way, we’ll probably still enjoy what has become TV comfort food. There’s not too much substance here when it comes to format or surprises, but you do enjoy it while it is there and then miss it when it is gone.
