‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 10 preview: On the Battle of Prestonpans

Outlander -

Thanks in part to history, there is not necessarily too much drama when it comes to the upcoming “Outlander” episode airing on Saturday. That is especially true if you are a book reader and know more or less what is going to happen.

So how do you cultivate drama with this information in mind? Well, it’s all about coming up with the right visual presentation, and doing something that still finds a way to surprise. For a little more information regarding this, just take a look at how writer-producer Matthew B. Roberts describes it to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Next episode is titled, “Prestonpans.” The episode encompasses the Battle of Prestonpans. We’re going to take Jamie and his troops and integrate them within the bigger Highland army. Prince Charlie returns and the first half is all these people trying to jockey for a position with him. Jamie is the one person who doesn’t have to since he already has the Prince’s ear. And through knowledge of Claire, he knows they’re going to win this battle, so he’s a little more relaxed than you would normally see a person going into a battle. So what we need to show in “Prestonpans” is how they win this battle. We stay true to the actual battle, it was about eight minutes long total and we pretty much almost show it in real time.”

In other words, if you are really wanting an episode of “Outlander” with an epic feel, this is going to be it. Also, the aftereffects of this battle will likely set the stage for the remaining episodes of the season, and then also carry over into season 3. Roberts says there has already been some prep done on the season, and while there is no premiere date, maybe it won’t be an impossibly-long wait until we have more.
