Teen Choice Awards 2016: Will Ross Lynch, Jaime Camil, or Taylor Lautner will Comedy Actor?

The 2016 Teen Choice Awards may not be until July 31, but we’re continuing today with our series all about the first wave of nominees with the Choice TV Actor: Comedy category, one that we certainly find interesting given that we’re talking about everything from the most-watched show in the genre on TV to a lesser-known BBC Three series that just so happens to star a guy from “Twilight.”

Who do we think will, and should, win? That’s something we’ll profile below, and we’ve also got a poll below for you to share your own thoughts! (We’ll announce who the fan favorites are for some of the TV categories, at least per CarterMatt readers, a little bit later in the week.)

The nominees

Andy Samberg – “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”

Anthony Anderson – “Black-ish”

Jaime Camil – “Jane the Virgin”

Jim Parsons – “The Big Bang Theory”

Ross Lynch – “Austin & Ally”

Taylor Lautner – “Cuckoo”

Who will win – It’s tricky to call. Parsons has the inside track mostly because his show is the most popular, but we’re not going to rule out Lynch just because of the immense popularity “Austin & Ally” has among viewers aged 12-18. (Lynch also is the reigning champ, which is another reason why you have to consider him a contender.) You also can’t rule out Lautner here. We’re not entirely sure how many teen voters have even seen “Cuckoo” (which is now on Netflix), and it is a rather funny show, but he may pool some votes just based on resume alone.

Who should win – It’s a real long-shot, but we’d go with either Anderson or Camil just based on resume for the past year. In some ways Camil being on more of an underdog show in “Jane the Virgin” makes us even more inclined to want to root for him to pull this off. (We’ve also been a proponent for him to get an Emmy nod, as well, but we’ll have more on that in our Emmy series later this summer.)
