‘The Good Wife’ spin-off will feature new characters; Julianna Margulies appearance possible

It was just one month ago when it was hard to get much of a sign one way or another as to if there will be a spin-off for “The Good Wife,” and now, it’s official that we’re getting it! Around the time of CBS upfronts it was confirmed that Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo were going to bring Diane Lockhart and Luca Quinn over to the All Access streaming service, and now, we’re at least getting an indication that Julianna Margulies could appear at some point in her role of Alicia Florrick.

Speaking per TVLine, show co-creator Michelle King made it clear that an appearance from Alicia is possible, and that there are many different discussions happening. Yet, for the most part, there is an emphasis being put on bringing some new people into this world:

“It’ll be fun to build [the company] anew … But also, the thinking is new characters.”

One name we’re going to continue to throw out there is Carrie Preston, given that Elsbeth Tascioni was one of our favorite recurring characters in this world, and also that she no longer has a full-time TV gig courtesy of “Crowded” being canceled. There was talk about an Elsbeth spin-off even before “The Good Wife” itself came to a close, which really does show the sort of rampant popularity that this character has.

This spin-off will likely premiere at some point in 2017, and we plan to have some further news on it very soon. Be on the lookout!
