Finally after many weeks, the rumors can stop regarding who is going to be a part of the upcoming season of “The X Factor.” After all, we now know for certain!
Today, ITV confirmed that Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger, and Sharon Osbourne are all returning to the show after a little bit of a layoff, which means that in some ways, this season is a little bit more of a throwback. We feel like this is a reactionary move in part by head judge / executive producer Simon Cowell, who tried to reboot this past season in some way by bringing in the likes of Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw to the panel. However, viewers did not respond to it in a way that he liked, and as a result of that he has since decided to go in a different direction in hopes of cashing in more on nostalgia.
While we’re never going to say that Walsh is the greatest judge in reality TV history (too many “ready made pop star” comments), we do think that he does bring a few interesting things to the table. Above all else, he and Sharon have a great relationship, and the two coupled with Scherzinger should bring a whole lot of humor to the proceedings. More than anything else, this show needs people who will challenge Simon, and Sharon especially should not take any lip from him.
This new season should premiere in late summer / early fall; it could be some time before official details are announced, but we’ll share more when we start to learn more!
