‘Roots’ episode 2 preview: The next phase of Kunta’s journey

Roots -The moment that a “Roots” remake was announced, it’s fair to say that anticipation was high. After all, this was one of the original miniseries that really redefined television, and to go along with that it remains one of the most iconic products of its kind today. It launched the careers of LeVar Burton and others, and Kunta Kinte to many is a legend as a result of the journey that viewers had a chance to witness … and are having a chance to witness yet again.

For the most part, we’d say that reviews for the first episode across multiple networks (including History, A&E, and Lifetime) have been really positive. Will that continue? That remains to be seen, but we do have some further details regarding the second episode airing tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. Just take a look at them below, courtesy of TV Guide:

“Kunta meets British soldiers who convince him to escape, but he soon finds they are no better than his American slave family and attempts to run away. Later: a doctor takes him in and Kunta begins courting his daughter.”

Is airing these episodes one right after the other the right move to make here logistically? It’s fair to ask the question at the moment, but we’d say for the most part that the answer is a clear “yes” for one reason and one reason only: How much is there to really watch this week? Sweeps just ended on network TV, and the majority of the summer shows haven’t started yet. We suppose that there are a few things here and there like “The Bachelorette” and “America’s Got Talent,” but we’re not sure there is a big crossover between reality TV and this crowd.

So far, this miniseries is sensational; we’ll get a further sense of this version in due time.
