‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4: Should Hayley Atwell make an appearance as Peggy?

Agents of SHIELD -

The third season of “Agents of SHIELD” is entering a hiatus, and this is one that’s going to be lasting a rather long time. September is the earliest that you’ll see Clark Gregg and company on ABC once more, and while we wait, we figured that this is as good a time as any to ask another question: Should we also see Hayley Atwell?

(Warning: There are some spoilers ahead from “Captain America: Civil War.”)

The reality is that, in the present, the character is dead. Peggy dies in her sleep during the aforementioned film that hit theaters earlier this year, and that reduces the chances that we’re going to see Atwell in some old-age makeup on the show anytime soon. There’s no real way to incorporate her in the present.

Yet, is there a way to tie something SHIELD is working on in the present to something that could be a part of the past? We could easily see a case from Peggy’s life rising to the forefront once more, and the show giving us a flashback or two showing how she handled things back during her era of kicking butt and taking names. It would be a nice way to get a little bit of closure for this character, given that “Agent Carter” is canceled, and at present seems unlikely to find a new home. Any new home would have to work around Hayley’s new series “Conviction” for ABC, and that could be tough schedule-wise. Therefore, giving Peggy a small role on “SHIELD” for an episode or two could help us to feel like there is a happy note to end the character’s story on.

Ultimately, the last thing that we want is for the last thing with Agent Carter to be her dying of old age in a movie. The character deserves a send-off that includes more of the awesome stuff she did in the past.
