‘The Bachelorette’ premiere: JoJo Fletcher explains keeping ‘pool guy’ Daniel

Every single season on “The Bachelorette,” there are a few trainwrecks during the premiere. After all, it is expected when you throw a bunch of already-tired guys into a mansion with tons of alcohol and tons of nerves.

This time around, the biggest victim of the first-night curse (if you want to call it that, since these guys do willingly do it to themselves to a certain extent) was Canadian model Daniel, who got really drunk before proceeding to strip down and jump in the pool. He didn’t really have much in the way of an explanation for it, and shockingly was spared by JoJo Fletcher with a rose at the end of the night. While she didn’t know everything that the guy was up to, including “poking” some other people taking part in the festivities, she was aware of the pool incident in advance.

So why still keep him? This is something that JoJo herself explained to E! News:

“Everyone’s like, ‘Why did you keep Daniel?!’ He was comedic relied for me that night … I was like, this guy has to be different when he’s not just hammered. I just wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt!”

As for how long Daniel will last following this, let’s just say that it is not looking good. The majority of first-night disasters fail to ever really turn things around; some do last a few weeks, and maybe that is Daniel’s ceiling since we don’t see him being suddenly nice, normal, and not above doing some weird stunts around some of the men this season.
