‘Outlander’ season 2, and the send-off to the Comte St. Germain
Overall, we would say that other than Black Jack Randall, there may not be a more despicable character in the world of “Outlander” than the Comte St. Germain. Yet, at the same exact time comparing the evil of one man to the next may be akin to comparing apples and oranges. The two are equally horrible in many ways, with the only real difference being that one is somehow still alive, and the other is currently dead.
The only real surprise to us as someone not familiar with the books is seeing the Comte go so soon, given that he did establish himself as such a horrible person and a threat. Then again, maybe the time retroactive is right given that Jamie and Claire seem to be heading back to France, and also that Claire had the change to bring about his undoing by poisoning him in front of King Louis under the guise of her La Dame Blanche persona.
In describing the way in which his character departed in a new interview with E! News, Stanley Weber had the following message to pass along:
“I’ve seen people on death’s bed, but I haven’t seen anyone dying live, so it’s a very hard thing to imagine … You don’t really prepare for that. Yeah, you prepare mentally and you try to of course do some research about what sort of poison it is, what sort of pain it’s going to cause. What is going to be the body feeling where the poison is going to get stuck and start to spread in your body? Then, you work in your body language and physically to have a sort of fire spreading in your body so you can actually feel your bones shaking. You don’t want to make it impressive or sensational, you just want to make it believable. That’s the most important thing, and for that, you just try to stay humble and truthful to the character and to the people around you.”
Of course, we will not miss a character who was so horrible, but at the same time, we do appreciate the depth that Weber brought to the role.

I felt bad for St. Germain, actually. Here he was minding his own business and then Claire comes along and calls out smallpox which then ruins his business. So, yeah, he tried to poison her once, but when it didn’t work he really didn’t do too much else except walk around in his shiny suits and glare at her. Then, he ends up face-planting on the marble floor at her feet after being forced to drink poison. Poor guy. He has a much deeper backstory in the book series. I’m sad that none of that will be revealed. Stanley Weber was fantastic as St. Germain. I’m going to miss watching him be handsome and menacing in his beautiful suits. :)
