‘Britain’s Got Talent’ results: Did Kathleen Jenkins, Mel & Jamie, or 100 Voices of Gospel advance to final?
Tonight’s “Britain’s Got Talent” outing may be the most disappointed we’ve ever been in the first live show of a season. There were nine acts to perform, and you want to feel disappointed that a few of them are not going to get a chance.
After this show (read our full review here), it’s hard to feel that way. There were three or four acts that were okay, and then one in 100 Voices of Gospel who were excellent, and who also performed last. They were a slam-dunk to get through on the public vote, and wouldn’t even need the help of the judges. Typically, our theory is that if no one else was incredibly impressive, the voting public will just pick singers because it’s easier to become attached to their story and their emotion. Therefore, our pre-show pick was that Kathleen Jenkins and Mel & Jamie would be the two acts up for the judges’ save.
As the results were revealed, the biggest surprise was that Richard Bayton wasn’t last. He beat the ballroom dancers! Also, Ben Blaque was in seventh place for an act that fell apart, which was sad given that he was capable of much more. Predictably, the gospel group did win, and it was down to fellow singers Jenkins and Mel & Jamie to determine who would be moving on.
Our sentiment here was simple: Kathleen was the better singer, and has more commercial potential. Mel & Jamie are sweet, but we feel like their act is more of a launching pad for Jamie’s future career. The judges let Britain decide, and with that the act moving forward is … Mel & Jamie! We don’t quite agree with the decision, and the hard truth for Kathleen is that we don’t see her being a finalist via a wild-card given that we’ve already got two singing acts in there.
Sadly, it looks like this season could become “Britain’s Got Singers” unless some other acts step it up.
