‘Ink Master’ season 7, episode 12 preview: The tables are turned

Ink MasterTuesday night marks the penultimate episode of “Ink Master” this season, and for the first time this season, we’re going to see a major shift when it comes to the way that the elimination tattoos work.

Until this week, most of these challenges have been decided by the returning artists, who got a chance to come in and force the other competitors to do something of the style of their choosing. Some went right for their strengths. Take, for example, James Vaughn. However, there were others who tried to show they could go outside their comfort zone a little bit, as well.

This week, the newbies are going to get this same power, and that certainly makes some sense. Given how far Christian and Anthony have come this season, staying alive every single week from the very beginning, doesn’t it make sense that they would get some power?

The way that this episode is going to work structurally is that we’re going to get a chance to see Anthony and Christian each face off against a veteran artist, and the winner for each battle will go straight to the finale. Meanwhile, the losers will have to do battle in one final challenge to earn the third seat. It’s something that we’ve seen structurally on the show this season already, but never before have the stakes been higher.

We’re going to go ahead and call our shot that James is the artist in the most danger of going home. For us, it just doesn’t feel as exciting narratively-speaking for him to be in the finale.
