‘The Bachelorette’ spotlight: Can Derek Path bank on winning JoJo Fletcher’s heart?
The new season of “The Bachelorette” is premiering on ABC in one week’s time, and we’ve got one more spotlight today to get you talking about precisely what is coming up next. Meet Derek Path! He’s probably one of the more successful people on this season, and he clearly wants everyone to know that his shirt has a pocket on it. (Yea, that’s a very silly joke.)
Anyway, take a look at the spotlight article below to get more of our take as to whether or not he could be a good fit for JoJo Fletcher over the course of the coming season.
Name – Derek Path.
Age – 29
Occupation – Commercial banker. We’re not going to say that the guy is loaded or anything, but typically, you’re fairly successful if you’re in this sort of field.
Location – Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There are surprisingly a lot of people from Florida on this season. Maybe someone in casting hangs out at South Beach a lot?
Pros – We love this answer on who he admires in the world from his bio: “I think in history, this would fall to Ben Franklin. He was able to view the world with childlike wonder to feed his creative/inventive side and balance that with a work ethic that produced massive shifts for the greater good.” It shows that he put some thought into it, and the same goes for most of his bio. We also don’t mind that he admits to skinny-dipping, since it takes a little bit of the edge off of someone who could come across as very intense.
Cons – What kind of person is afraid of “fluffy kittens”? Seriously? There are some weird answers he gives, including apparently some sort of irrational hatred of cucumbers. More than that, the real question we wonder with him is why he is on this show. We can’t imagine that he has a hard time meeting people. Maybe he’s really interested in JoJo, or maybe he really wants a bigger profile.
Most likely to… Be forced to hold a kitten at some point by producers. They love exploiting fears! (We’re going to be a tad hypocritical for a second, since we just criticized him for saying he’s afraid of “fluffy kittens.” We’ve previously advocated for, and even said in podcasts, the idea of putting an intentionally lame fear on a bio. You know that producers are going to make you live through it. Don’t actually tell them what you’re afraid of!)
Final assessment – We feel like Derek’s a contender to go far this season. There’s a lot about him that should be appealing to JoJo, from a spirit of adventure to an intellectual side. He’s got a job that will keep him employed, provided he wants to continue doing it, the rest of his life. There’s not much to worry about.
