’24: Legacy’ spoilers: First look at Corey Hawkins as new lead!

24-

At some point over the course of the next year, we’re going to have a chance to finally explore what the “24” franchise is going to be like without Kiefer Sutherland. It’s still a strange thing to examine, but that is precisely what we’re going to have going into “24: Legacy.”

Above, we’ve got your first look at the new leading man in Eric Carter, played by “Straight Outta Compton” / “The Walking Dead” actor Corey Hawkins as our new lead in Eric Carter. We don’t know too much about his character just yet beyond that he at one point served in the military, and eventually came back and quickly finds himself with the CTU. Miranda Otta of “Homeland” fame is going to also star as the former head of the organization, while Teddy Sears of “The Flash” / “Masters of Sex” will be the new head. Meanwhile, Jimmy Smits (“Sons of Anarchy”) will be the husband of Otto’s character, and a man with a lengthy history in politics.

In the end, we imagine that this show is going to have a whole lot of buzz around it, but one of the larger questions is simply a matter of if it can live up to the name, and also if these 12 episodes will prove to be worth the pacing gimmick that made some “24” seasons great, but also some pretty uneven stretches in others. (Let’s just pretend that season 6 of the original show never happened.)

Hopefully, we’ll learn an official premiere date for the revival at the Fox upfronts soon.
