‘The Blacklist’ spin-off gets series order, ‘The Blacklist: Redemption’ title

The Blacklist logo any seasonThere is no longer any reason to wonder about whether or not “The Blacklist” franchise could be expanding on NBC. Today, the network officially announced that they are greenlighting “The Blacklist: Redemption,” the much-discussed spin-off starring Ryan Eggold (Tom Keen) and Famke Janssen (Scottie Hargrave). Edi Gathegi (Mr. Solomon) is also going to be an integral part of the new show as well.

Story-wise, indications suggest that this show will revolve around Tom working with Scottie, who he just learned to be his mother, to infiltrate the criminal world and potential take down other masterminds from within. While we’re happy to see the show given this sort of thumbs-up from the network, there are still some questions we have.

1. What happens to Baby Agnes? In the long-term, it is going to seem somewhat strange for Tom to just go off, especially if Liz does end up revealing that she was not really dead at all this whole time.

2. Will there be more crossovers? Given the nature of the Liz – Tom relationship, we have a really hard time imagining that we are never going to see them interact again.

What this official spin-off does is that it further gives both the Keen characters the creative space to explore their own pasts, and also gives NBC a little less real estate. This is the second spin-off that they have ordered this year following “Chicago Justice,” which was planted earlier this year during a “Chicago PD” episode.
