‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 6 video: Claire tells Murtagh about her ‘past’

Claire -

There is a certain element of tragedy that comes with the character of Claire Fraser on “Outlander,” and most of it has to do with where she comes from. In her time, the reality is that the people that she has come to care about are dead. That includes Jamie and Murtagh; she may know how they go, but no one lives forever. (This show may have a supernatural component to it, but it’s clearly not of this variety … at least so far.)

This sneak peek below features Claire informing Murtagh about where she comes from, and also the importance of what she and Jamie are doing with the Jacobite Rebellion given what she knows about it from her own time. It’s an engrossing scene that reminds us how much we enjoy the Murtagh character this season; he’s the biggest fish out of water, and while there is this brutality about him, there is also a tenderness to him under his armor that makes him such a valuable asset to the cause.

In getting back to the Rebellion, Jamie and Claire may spend this episode plotting an incident for the Comte St. Germain’s shipment, one that could cause Prince Charles to lose the funds necessary in order to make the operation happen. While we are hopeful they could succeed, the dinner party served as a chilling reminder that even the best-laid plans can go to waste when there are so many variables at play.

We will be back tomorrow with a full review of this episode. Stay tuned…
