‘Chicago PD’ season 3, episode 21 video: A longer look at ‘Justice,’ Burgess’ trial

Justice -There have been many important episodes of “Chicago PD” this year, but we still would be willing to wager that even with this in mind, Wednesday’s “Justice” is one of the most critical. Not only is this a backdoor pilot for a potential new series for NBC, but it also tackles extremely relevant subject matter in terms of police violence and the shooting of young black men by people in uniform.

The extended trailer below does a good job of setting up the complicated nature of this storyline. After she and Roman are gunned down, Burgess goes after who she believes to be the responsible party. She loses sight of him for a second, but after turning a corner, she fires at who she believes to be the attacker. He survives, but there is no gun on him, and all signs point to the young man being an honor student and an upstanding member of society. Protests ensue across the city.

This is where Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) enters the fray. He’s the potential lead of “Chicago Justice” alongside Carl Weathers, and it will be his job to figure out the truth behind what happened. Unfortunately for him, it appears as though it is not going to be easy trying to piece together what really happened here. Not only that, but he’s going to be incredibly frustrated when he learns that Burgess and Roman have a romantic past, which could change the perception of her in the case.
