‘Arrow’ season 4 finale spoilers: Could we be in for a Thea surprise?

Speedy -The “Arrow” finale may not be coming onto The CW until we get around to Wednesday, May 25, but why not get some more news on it now? Much of this season has been about identity. Oliver Queen is now the Green Arrow, Felicity now has a code-name, and by the end of the year, we could see Thea finally start to figure out just where she belongs. She loves her brother, but at the same time there is a darkness within her, and while it seems that it is because of the Lazarus Pit, is that really the case?

Judging from what show executive producer Wendy Mericle explained to TV Guide, this could be something we get a firm answer on in one way or another during the finale:

“Thea had bloodlust earlier in the season and since then has been questioning her place on the team, and questioning whether or not she is Speedy, which goes back to her character’s struggle with whether she’s more of a Queen or a Merlyn … She’s going to answer that question in [the finale] and come up with, what we hope, is a pretty surprising answer.”

Would it really be that surprising if Thea realizes that she is a Queen? That is why we hope in the end that the answer is at least a tad bit more unpredictable than that, or if she does identify herself with Oliver and her mother’s side, it is for a surprising reason. We’re not necessarily sure we need to see her become a villain, but we’re down with the show taking some more creative risks. Some of them have worked and paid off, and others have not; but, we’d never know unless the show did them.
