Could more ‘Vampire Diaries’ – ‘Originals’ crossovers happen? Show boss hopes so

tvd -Last year, we really feel like there were probably not enough crossover events or even mentions between “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” for our liking. After all, The CW has these two shows, and it only seems like a great way to help them both out to connect their universes.

Luckily, this year we’ve seen more of that, whether it be actors like Paul Wesley going onto “The Originals” or even just little things like Caroline referencing Klaus on this past episode, where we got a small sense of where he could be years down the road. This is something that, if executive producer Julie Plec got her way, she’d like to do move of … provided they make sense to the story being told.

Speaking on this subject further to TVLine, the prolific showrunner had the following to pass along:

“It’s a rare luxury to have two shows in a shared universe that you could do that … So to not do it feels like we’re missing a really fun creative opportunity, a way to celebrate both shows. But it’s not like anyone over at the network is calling us and being like, ‘You need two crossovers this year.’ I think it’d be fun to keep finding small, organic ways to do it. Like when we had Matt Donovan show up on The Originals — that wasn’t for ratings, it just made logical sense that if the Originals were in Mystic Falls, they’d have a run-in with Deputy Donovan. I’d love to keep doing stuff like that. It’s fun, and it’s easier to accomplish than a massive two-show crossover.”

We’re certainly down to see more of these play out, so this is one of those situations where we’ll just see what happens with them! Both shows are ending for the season this month, so we’ll see what their future holds in due time.
