‘Penny Dreadful’ season 3, episode 3 preview: Vanessa learns more of her past

“Penny Dreadful” on Showtime is the sort of show that for one reason or another, never gets the respect that it deserves. The same goes for season 3 so far, which has been a complicated series of twists and turns. It’s also been anchored by great performances, and anytime we mention that we have to put Eva Green front and center. Vanessa has been tortured and tormented, but at the same time, she does continue to find a way to emerge on the other side.

In true Showtime fashion, though, the network is not altogether keen on giving many details. As a matter of fact, the synopsis below may be one of the shortest ones we’ve seen for the series to date:

“Vanessa is confronted by a familiar, who reveals a clue to her past.”

What gives? We’re not even at the finale just yet, and that is when the network does tend to blow such things out of the water in terms of secrecy. Luckily, the promo offers a few more details as to what to expect, in between some sequences of violence, some psychological horror, and then also plenty of prophecies. Don’t you love prophecies? Ultimately, it’s more of the same when it comes to what we know and love about the show, and hopefully it will get many of the main characters coming together once more. If there is one frustration that we can see many having at the moment, it is that so many people are spending time apart.
