‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Jesse Williams on Jackson / April in light of Callie / Arizona battle

Jackson -One of the smartest things about “Grey’s Anatomy” is that you often do get the sense that the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is a living, breathing ecosystem. There are decisions that some characters make that do impact how others think. We’ve seen that at this point time and time again, and we could see that happen for Jackson and April in light of what happened with Callie and Arizona on Thursday night’s new episode of the show.

So what could we see moving forward for the recently-divorced couple, who are getting set to welcome a child? As Jesse Williams tells The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview, it could lead to an era of greater cooperation between the two as they try to figure out a way to make a custody arrangement work:

“Callie and Arizona’s storyline serves as a warning shot for April and Jackson — if they chose to pay attention to it and look at it with some kind of foresight. [With Callie and Arizona], you see a couple that is several years ahead of April and Jackson and what it is to manage a marriage and manage a potential divorce and a divorce with kids, which is what Jackson and April are inheriting. We’re starting our first moment as parents as a divorced couple, so you can see how quickly and easily it can turn ugly. I’m not sure that we’re taking lessons from that though. I think a lot of that stuff is in hindsight. Callie and Arizona are giving us a blueprint of what not to do and a glimmer of ideas of what you can do. Callie and Arizona do sometimes have a healthy relationship. But I think Jackson and April have such tunnel vision on their specific experiences and their tension with their particular relationship that it’s easy to dive in blindly and carry all your frustration and baggage.”

Is there still hope for these characters romantically? We’re not giving up on that, mostly because it felt like Jackson and April were on better terms in this episode than we’ve seen them be in for quite some time. For now, we just have to think of any positive communication between the two of them as a step in the right direction; we’ll just have to figure out if something further blossoms from there.
