Typically, May is the time when the vast majority of networks choose to air lineups that feature almost all of their programming as it is typically scheduled. After all, it is sweeps, and therefore you want to take advantage of the chance to get the best ratings that you possibly can.
However, that is clearly not how NBC is planning to go about doing things, and you have as evidence of that what they are doing at present with “Grimm.” There is no new episode of the show airing on the network tonight, mostly because they are airing an extended edition of their “Adele: Live in New York City” concert event. Do they think that this will get them better ratings than the supernatural mystery show will? We guess, but it’s hard to say since most of Adele’s hype has dissipated over the course of the past several months following the release of her recent album. (Sure, it did still sell a billion or so copies.)
“Grimm” will be returning on May 13 with a new episode, and that will carry over into a two-hour finale airing on May 20. Ultimately, this is the way in which NBC is able to not air the show tonight, and still get all of the story told before sweeps comes to a close.
As many of you out there more than likely know, the show has been renewed already for a sixth season. We’re just waiting now to see what the episode count ultimately is.
